Comprehensive Care for Bicuspid Aortic Valve Disease

For patients with bicuspid aortic valve (BAV), our highly specialized, multidisciplinary team provides expert care and the latest breakthrough treatments. With a unique care approach, The Martha and Richard Melman Family Bicuspid Aortic Valve Program delivers support to patients and families affected by BAV through screening, monitoring, family assessment, treatment, and research from diagnosis to surgery and beyond.

Seeking expert BAV care for yourself, a loved one, or a patient?

BAV is the most common congenital heart disorder, affecting approximately one to two percent of people. Many people with BAV will need surgery in their lifetime, either for the aortic valve, the thoracic aorta or both. The Martha and Richard Melman Family Bicuspid Aortic Valve (BAV) Program at Northwestern Medicine Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute is proud to offer patients access to breakthrough clinical trials, leading-edge resources and advanced imaging capabilities. Our sophisticated treatment options range from medical therapy to advanced surgical intervention, including minimally invasive procedures.

Hear From Our Patients

A Seamless Patient Experience

We put each patient at the center of their care team. A nurse coordinator who is an expert in cardiovascular care will guide you every step of the way.

The coordinator will:

  • Recommend a physician.
  • Help collect medical records.
  • Schedule appointments and any tests and procedures.

After a virtual intake visit with our nurse coordinator, our physicians will offer treatment recommendations tailored to your specific needs. Then, you’ll  meet with a physician to discuss options and develop a care plan.

We offer virtual visits so you can get expert guidance from home. If you prefer an in-person visit, we have multiple convenient locations across the Chicago area.

Whether you live far away or around the corner, we make it easy for you to schedule visits, get the care you need and manage your condition for the rest of your life.
